About the Role & Team
As the Veterinary Practice Manager, you will be an integral member of the Animal Health leadership team, leading the Veterinary / Laboratory Technician Team for Disney’s Animal Kingdom (DAK), Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (DAKL), and Tri Circle D Ranch, and providing additional support for the Seas with Nemo and Friends (Epcot). What You Will Do

Working with the Animal Care Director, Veterinarian(s), and other Animal Care staff, this position is responsible for all aspects of animal care and husbandry for seals and sea turtles, including maintaining the facility and life support systems and helping to train and supervise animal care volunteers and interns.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Animal Care (~0.8 FTE):
Under the direction of the Animal Care Director, implement all aspects of animal husbandry at the National Marine Life Center.
Handle and restrain seals, sea turtles, and native turtles.
Prepare animal diets and feed, including tube feeding seals.
Assist with medical care of patients, including administering oral, SQ, IM, and IV treatments; treating wounds; performing routine medical exams, blood work, and radiographs.
All husbandry duties, including hospital cleanliness.
Perform all related laboratory work, including water quality testing, in-house blood and sample testing, and sending samples out for analysis to outside laboratories per established protocols.
Ensure proper record-keeping, including animal medical charts, water quality records, facility logs, drug logs, and other necessary documentation.

Summary:
This position is responsible for providing diagnostic and research laboratory technical support for the Alaska SeaLife Center. Duties include oversight of the day-to-day quality control and analyses including but not limited to hematology, serum chemistry, microbiology (aerobic and anaerobic), urinalysis, fecal parasite exams, and water coliform tests. This position assists with and performs diagnostic and medical tasks to ensure the health and welfare of all animals, as well as supports internal and external research projects.
Education/Training Requirements:
Successful applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or related science. At least 1 year experience with laboratory techniques (i.e. urinalysis, automated and manual blood analysis, basic cytology, etc) and experience working with biological specimens from exotic or zoological animals. Certification in laboratory safety, hazardous materials handling, emergency first aid, and open water SCUBA diving is preferred. Supports LLPA’s Veterinary Services Department and Zoological Operations Team through clinical case management utilizing best practices in medical, surgical, and diagnostic techniques.

Critical Skills/Competencies:
Minimum of 2 years post-graduate zoological experience or specialty internship\residency training. ACZM board certification or eligibility preferred.

Experience utilizing digital radiography, ultrasound, and rigid and flexible endoscopy for collection of minimally invasive diagnostic information.
Experience with sedation and anesthesia of a wide range of species, including aquatic immersion and remote immobilization.
Qualifications:
DVM or VMD from an AVMA-accredited institution.
Must have or be able to obtain a valid state veterinary license and controlled substance certificate, DEA controlled substance registration certificate, and USDA Category II accreditation.
Must have or be able to obtain a State of Utah driver’s license within 3 months of starting, and be eligible to drive company vehicles.
Physical Demands of the Job:
This position requires periods of standing and walking as well as extended periods of sitting with technology systems and reporting. The role will primarily be within an attraction environment.
Must be able to provide veterinary care and assessments in a variety of exhibit and non-exhibit settings. This may include wading, walking on wet floors, and outdoor work under variety of conditions: cold weather, hot weather, high humidity, rain, mud.
Considerable physical exertion, such as walking, bending, stooping and climbing of ladders may be required.
