Coordinate animal exams/procedures, medical treatment and routine biologic sample collection.
Collect, transport, and process samples while maintaining clear records. Use your RVT skills to prepare samples for analyses in, but not limited to, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, mycology, parasitology, urinalysis, and cytology. Assist laboratory staff as needed in performing laboratory diagnostic procedures.
Assist with medical data entry into our electronic animal medical records system (TRACKS).
Maintain pharmacy. Dispense drugs, vitamins and other supplies as requested. Perform pharmaceutical and supplies inventories on a regular basis to restock as needed.
Maintain surgery and treatment rooms, anesthetic equipment, medical equipment, and supplies. Prepare and assist with triage, surgery, diagnostic imaging, and procedures. Provide surgical assistance and anesthetic monitoring.
Coordinate and implement radiology, laser, and surgical area safety programs. Archive diagnostic digital images.
Ensures excellent animal care service by responding to the team's requirements, expectations and needs.
Assist and participate in animal care or Hospital projects as requested; and other related duties as assigned.
What it takes to succeed:
Veterinary experience is required. Animal or aquatic animal care experience preferred.
Available to work weekends and holidays. Willingness to work evenings in the rare event of an emergency, procedure, or animal care need.
Medical procedures require standing, walking, using hands, listening, talking and vision, and shuttling equipment, therefore must be able to lift and carry 25 lb.
Maintaining records, computer data entry, dispensing pharmaceuticals, vitamins, and ordering supplies require a detail-oriented person able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications, spreadsheets and databases, including digital medical records (TRACKS).
Able to sit, walk, talk, use hands, hear, smell and have color vision. Able to stand for prolonged periods of time.

Job Summary:
Under general direction from the Rehabilitation Program Manager and utilizing well-defined objectives and guidelines, the Veterinary Technician provides “hands-on” leadership through knowledge of the disciplines of veterinary medical primary technical care and a general understanding of sea turtle rehabilitation and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the veterinary hospital facilities including the diagnostic laboratory, pharmacy, surgery, and radiology suite. The Veterinary Technician is responsible for carrying out the orders of the attending veterinarian regarding patient care in the hospital area. Responsibilities include providing technical and medical assistance in the care and daily treatment of all animals maintained by the GSTC. In addition, the Veterinary Technician assists in anesthesia, and surgical procedures, maintains all diagnostic equipment in good order and orders, and maintains an inventory of medical drugs, equipment, and supplies.
Description:
Responsible for providing technical and medical assistance in the care and treatment of all animals maintained by the GSTC under the general supervision of the Rehabilitation Program Manager.
Responsible for husbandry and care of a wide variety of wild birds and reptiles in a rehabilitation setting, as well as the medical, surgical, and rehabilitation procedures and tasks.
Creates weekly treatment schedule to ensure all animals in care are evaluated by the attending veterinarian.
Manages the daily flow and prioritizes treatments, examinations, and procedures to maximize resources.
Operates diagnostic equipment (endoscopy, radiology, clinical pathology, parasitology, etc.), assists in surgical procedures, and has familiarity with protocols for handling scheduled narcotics and controlled substances; performs data entry of medical records in electronic record-keeping systems, including ZIMS. Additionally, ensures that all GSTC animal medical records are maintained in accordance with Georgia State Veterinary Medical Association rules and guidelines.
Develops and maintains maintenance logs for all hospital equipment.
Develops and implements training for the operation and maintenance of all hospital equipment.
Assist the attending veterinarian in anesthesia, surgery, and medical care of the animals.
Maintains medical equipment and supplies in clean, orderly, and working condition.
Orders, stocks, and organizes pharmacy inventory, monitors outdated and recalled drugs, and manages donations of equipment and supplies when necessary.
Develops teaching itineraries for veterinary externs, interns, and volunteers about rehabilitation/caretaking protocols in the hospital.
Assists with supervising and coordinating hospital volunteers and interns under the direction of the Rehabilitation Program Manager.
Duties include feeding and caring for all animals under the GSTC’s care, medicating animals and maintaining quarantine protocols as directed, cleaning and maintaining exhibits, tanks, life support systems, and husbandry record keeping.
Maintains hospital cleanliness, including such duties as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting equipment and lab areas. Disposes of garbage and sterilizes containers and instruments.
When appropriate, enthusiastically participates in public outreach and educational programming, including special tours, public and private education programs, and daily visitor interactions/educational interpretation.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Rehabilitation Program Manager.
Certified Veterinary Technician Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a related field (environmental biology, veterinary technical care, conservation, education, etc.) is preferred.
A Veterinary Technician degree from an accredited institution (e.g., CVT, LVT) and national veterinary technician certification or license is required.
IWRC’s Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator (CWR) preferred or must obtain two years from hire. Must maintain continuing education units (CEUs) biennially to maintain certification.
Requires a minimum of four years of experience working with exotic animals; prefers work experience in the zoo, aquarium, or rehabilitation field.
Must be a skilled and effective communicator committed to advancing sea turtle and wildlife conservation through rehabilitation, research, and education.
Direct experience in wild animal rescue, rehabilitation, veterinary technical expertise, research, and public education preferred.
Experience working with sea turtles preferred.
Desired lab skills include manual CBC on reptiles, use of Heska E-POC analyzer, iSTAT, centrifuge, and refractometers.
Skilled, knowledgeable, and up-to-date on the use of medical equipment, including digital radiology, endoscopy, ultrasound, anesthesia machine, doppler, cold laser therapy, V.A.C therapy, and fluid administration.
Work hours may include evenings and weekends for emergency care.
Ability to work under pressure in emergencies.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime, and be on-call for emergencies.
Performs “on-call” duties for rescue response, essential medical treatments, and animal health emergencies when necessary.

The New England Aquarium (NEAq) is seeking an accomplished senior research scientist with a proven record in conservation biology to lead a program focused on understanding the effects of climate change and ocean use on marine species. Individuals in this program have expertise in quantifying ecological patterns and processes in space and time, conducting aerial surveys to collect the data needed to inform/support conservation actions, habitat modeling, risk assessment, and assessing the impacts of climate change. There is room to expand on these focus areas, including through new fieldwork opportunities, data collection methodologies, and the scientific questions addressed. The individual in this role is expected to integrate their own established research program to support conservation goals related to climate change and responsible ocean use. We are open to a broad range of research disciplines and taxonomic focus areas, including ecosystem modeling, marine mammal ecology, species distribution modeling, population modeling, oceanography, climate change, and risk assessment. While nine months of annual salary support will be provided, the individual is expected to lead fundraising efforts for the program and their residual salary, as well as contribute to broader organizational fundraising efforts. Senior Scientist and Program Chair
Develop and lead the scientific/strategic direction of a program focused on understanding the effects of climate change and ocean use on marine species, in accordance with broader NEAq strategies, priorities, and targeted outcomes.
Conduct primary scientific research related to their areas of expertise.
Identify existing or emerging conservation issues and research opportunities where innovative monitoring and analysis approaches can amplify the effectiveness and impact of our conservation science projects and initiatives.
Serve as a leader and key spokesperson for the program’s research, as well as an ambassador for the NEAq as a whole (both internally and externally) to diversify funding sources and increase research impact.
Represent the NEAq and its various programs/skillsets regionally, nationally, and internationally by presenting original research at scientific conferences, workshops, and public engagements. Respond to media requests and work closely with the NEAq’s Marketing/Communications as an NEAq spokesperson.
Lead grant proposals and philanthropic fundraising efforts for staff salaries and research projects. Contribute to broader NEAq fundraising

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Training and Experience
Ph.D. required. Post-doctoral training or additional advanced degrees are desirable.
The candidate must be a highly accomplished scientific researcher with a marine conservation orientation and be a recognized authority in their field.
10+ years of relevant research experience, with at least five years leading a lab or program that includes technical staff, early career scientists, and/or graduate students.
Strong record of publications in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.
Experience presenting research at scientific conferences and serving as an invited expert on regional, national, and international working groups.
Proven ability to raise annually significant (6-7 figures) levels of government and private funding to support a large-scale lab/program.
Strong partnerships with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., with the scientific community, fishing industry, decision makers, regulators, funders, and other key influencers in the field).
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proven leadership skills and abilities to manage/lead a multidisciplinary group of staff and colleagues, including research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, research technicians, graduate students and interns/volunteers.
Evidence that research outputs have contributed to environmental management/policy measures, processes, and/or regulations.

The Hospital Manager, in coordination with VP of Animal and Environmental Health, will oversee all aspects of the hospital, manage the daily operations and assist in the daily medical care of both resident and rehabilitating animals. This position works closely with Zoological Care to ensure highest standard of medical care.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Oversee daily medical care of resident and rehabilitating animals- including but not limited to medication dispensing/administration, sample scheduling and collection, sample processing, diagnostic and medical procedures
Participate in the rapid response to all resident and stranded animal events including those that occur during non-scheduled times of work or outside of CMA’s operating hours
Manage veterinary technicians including goal setting, performance appraisals and schedules
Oversee maintenance of all hospital areas, servicing of associated medical equipment, and procedures
Perform all duties related to purchasing of pharmaceuticals, hospital and laboratory supplies, and disposing of expired drugs and supplies
Assist with development and management of animal health annual budget, maintaining accurate and current records for accounting
Maintain biohazardous waste and sharps disposal program
Maintenance of aquarium oxygen supply
Assists veterinarian with medical record keeping and appointment scheduling.
Assist with euthanasia and post-mortem examinations
Collaborate with animal care staff in training husbandry behaviors to ensure behavior meets medical needs and participate in training when appropriate
Function as veterinary technician as needed
Establish and implement standard operating procedures, ensuring an efficient overall hospital operation
Regularly re-evaluating medical processes and protocols incorporating newest techniques and innovation to ensure highest medical standard

REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher. Veterinary technician degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technician program (CVT/LVT) preferred
Minimum of 7 years proven experience in veterinary field including, minimum 5 years of veterinary aquatic experience and minimum of 3 years of managerial experience directly supervising staff
Ability to be certified in the state of Florida
Ability to obtain Florida driver’s license
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays as needed; must also be able to share a 24/7 on-call schedule in case of emergency situations
Thorough understanding of medical equipment, including but not limited to anesthetic machine, anesthesia monitoring, in-house lab equipment, and radiology equipment
Knowledge of medical procedures in aquatic animals
Demonstrates broad understanding of the field of aquatic animal health, including common diseases and treatments, general husbandry, environmental quality, zoonotic diseases, and conservation issues.
Ability to perform field response for stranded marine mammals
Must be able to provide first-response and emergency first-aid patient care in absence of Veterinarian
Demonstration of mathematical competence and ability to manage a budget
Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally and follow complex instructions
Ability to take initiative and work independently in the absence of supervision
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, word, power point etc).
